We had our first family movie night featuring "Despicable Me 2" shown by Open Air Entertainment. Each student that participated in the walk a thon was given a free bag of popcorn. Thank you to all the families that came. It was a great fun! And also thanks to the PTA board for putting the movie night together. 

Last Monday was the walk a thon, our annual PTA school fundraiser. Students and teachers were excited and ready to go! The PTA had bottled waters for each student,  apples and bananas for snacks (all donated by Reams in Springville)  and a water mister. It was great to see everyone participate. Big thanks to all the parents who came and helped! We couldn't have done it without you. Last day to turn in your donations envelope is Monday September 29th. Our awards assembly will be October 1st. 

This year at Mapleton Elementary we will be spotlighting a Student of the Week from each classroom. These students receive a certificate and prize from Mrs. Peery with the chance to be drawn out at the end of each month for "Pizza with the Principal." The focus for the month of August and September is "friendship." The students are selected based upon their kindness and by being a great friend to their classmates or peers. Here are the Students of the Week. 

Football players from MMHS came to Mapleton Elementary last week on Friday to read to students in various classes. They delighted the students with their stories but also with their personal examples of being active, getting involved and doing their best in school.

"The Discovering Mapleton Through Dance" art project  began today with third grade students learning to commit their energy and problem solving to movement.  Chris Roberts is the dance artist at Mapleton Elementary.  He is a retired teacher from Rees Elementary and the recipient of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Art Education.  The art project is funded by a grant from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums and the National Endowment for the Arts.
