Mrs. Jensen's 2nd Grade class has been taking care of a caterpillar that was brought in by one of her students.  They kept the caterpillar in the class and fed it, then they watched it change to a chrysalis, and during lunch today it hatched into a beautiful butterfly.  After lunch the class took it outside together, and placed it on a tree to watch for it to fly away.  Thanks Mrs. Jensen for helping your class experience this fun cycle together!!

Fourth graders were practicing observing, predicting, measuring, classifying, etc for their science test.  It was probably the most fun and easiest test of the whole year!

Friday the 5th grade had the opportunity to help the people of Houston.  Evan Call is one of my students(Mr. Groneman) and his dad reached out to me on very short notice (Thurs), and was going down to Houston to take supplies to shelters and children and asked for help.  Our 5th grade answered the call and brought a ton of items to help.  Here are a few pictures of Evan and his family helping in Houston.  His dad said they had over 15 suitcases of items to donate.  Way to go Evan and Mapleton 5th Grade!!

Mrs. Peery helped the 4th grade kickoff their Place Value unit by reading the story, "How Much Is a Million."  Chairs were lined up in the front each representing a place ten times bigger than the next.  Mrs. Peery brought her chair which was the Millions place!

In science we were investing the forces acting on the water bottle for a successful flip. Students determined that it's most successful with about 1/4 a bottle of water. They know that gravity is acting on the water, but with only 1/4 of the bottle filled there is a force holding the water in the bottom of the bottle, making it more balanced for a land. 

Thanks to a local scout, Joseph Holman, our blacktop area received a much needed face lift. For his Eagle Scout project, Joseph raised funds for the stencil and paint to re-do our USA and Utah map. He also provided activity ideas that teachers can use with students to engage with the maps. Students have loved playing on them every day since school started. Thanks Joseph!

We would like to welcome back all of our students at Mapleton Elementary!  We are excited to have the kindergarten students here with us today!

We currently have two positions open for our School Community Council. It is a two year commitment and consists of attending a one hour meeting once a month.  If you are interested in participating, please complete the attached form below and return to the office by Wednesday, August 30th. If there are more applicants than positions, an election will be held Sept. 1st - Sept. 6th.  We would love to have you come participate and be actively involved in helping our school become even better. 

Plan now to attend the Open House on Monday, August 21st between 2:30 and 5:30. You and your child will get to meet their teacher and find their classroom, order school t-shirts, sign-up to volunteer, join and support PTA, choose a time slot for parent conferences this year, and enjoy yummy refreshments! See you then!

This Saturday, August 5, 2017 is the Tabitha's Way Annual Backpack Giveaway.  It will be held at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds in the Tennis Court Building from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  The backpacks are filled with school supplies and are free to anyone in need.  Children receiving backpack(s) must be present at the event.
