Faculty Spotlight / Shauna Frossard

Mrs. Frossard is a Special Education teacher at Mapleton Elementary.  She enjoys movies, gardening, and reading.  Her favorite children's book is "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  She has four children and two grandchildren that she enjoys vacationing with.  Her favorite vacation was to the Oregon coast, and she would love to travel to Europe.  She enjoys working at the school because of the great faculty, and the students make it so fun to work every day.

Faculty Spotlight / Lynelle Nugent

Mrs. Nugent is a 4th grade teacher at Mapleton Elementary.  She enjoys music, swimming, cooking and skiing.  Her favorite children's book is "Holes" by Louis Sachar.  She is married, but she came from a family of eight.  She has three sisters and two brothers.  Her favorite vacation is going to any beach, since she loves water sports.  She would love to go to New Zealand or Italy.  She enjoys working at Mapleton Elementary because she loves working with the students and it makes her happy to be around them.

Faculty Spotlight / Cheryl Thurgood

Mrs. Thurgood is the Librarian at Mapleton Elementary.  She enjoys hiking, sewing, cooking and reading.  Her favorite children's book is "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling.  She and her husband have five daughters, one son and a Pug.  Her favorite vacation is camping with her family, and she would love to go on an Alaskan cruise.  She thinks that being the librarian is the best job in the whole school.  She loves books and reading, and loves to help kids love reading.

Student of the Week / Hard Worker

We will be spotlighting a Student of the Week from each classroom. These students receive a certificate and prize from Mrs. Peery with the chance to be drawn out at the end of each month for a special activity with the Principal. The focus for the month of March is being a "Hard Worker".  The students are selected by their teachers as they see their students working hard each day.  Here are the Students of the Week for March 25.

Elementary Debate Tournament

Mapleton 5th and 6th grade students participated in  the Nebo Elementary Debate Tournament. 130 fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from Hobble Creek, Brockbank, Rees and Mapleton participated.   The issue debated this year is Do the benefits of domestic surveillance by the National Security Agency outweigh the harms.  The debate was sponsored by the Utah High School Coaches Association. Winners were:​

Faculty Spotlight / Kelly Bennett

Mrs. Bennett is a Kindergarten Teacher at Mapleton Elementary.  She enjoys running, gardening, watching her boys play sports, and reading.  Her favorite children's book is "Epossumondas" by Colleen Salley.  She and her husband John have six children.  Her favorite vacation was to Hawaii, and she would love to spend a week at every Hawaiiian island.  She loves working at Mapleton Elementary because her kids attend here and she loves the people that she works with.

Mr. Caswell is a night custodian at Mapleton Elementary.  He enjoys basketball, camping, and football. His favorite Children's book is "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Suess.  Along with his Mom and Dad, he has one brother and two sisters.  His favorite vacation was a cruise to Alaska, and he would love to go to Hawaii.  He enjoys working at the school because of nice teachers and being able to do yard work.

Faculty Spotlight / Norma Jean McConnell

Mrs. Norma Jean McConnell is a night custodian at Mapleton Elementary.  She enjoys family, family history, hiking, and serving others.  Her favorite children's books are "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein and "Love you Forever" by robert Munsch.  She has been married to her wonderful husband for 57 years and they have sixteen children, eight daughters and eight sons.  They also have 42 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Her favorite vacation is anywhere with her family, especially Disneyland.
