Forty Four sixth grade students under the direction of Jessica Knight took the stage Tuesday night for their first concert. The combined orchestra of Hobble Creek Elementary and Mapleton Elementary performed twelve pieces. The first half of the program featured traditional folk songs while the second half included Christmas Carols including a celtic tune "Three Ships at the Calliope House". Three solos, flute, ukulele, violin, were also a part of the program. Mrs. Knight told the audience that this was the largest orchestra she has directed.
The Student Council at Mapleton Elementary recently held a clothing drive to benefit those in need. The council had set a goal of collecting 600 pieces of clothing for their two week long project. They not only met that goal, they tripled it!
The drive was a huge success as close to two thousand items were donated by the Mapleton community. The student council did a great job hauling all of the items up to the stage area each morning, and they reminded the rest of the school to keep giving each day on the morning announcements.
We congratulate all students who continue to "Do their Best" here at Mapleton Elementary School. Teachers and staff members have been using their "Doing My Best" stamps each day to recognize students best effort in school work and behavior in our community. Students names are put in a drawing to be invited to have pizza with Ms. Gledhill our principal. This month there were 40 + students who were the lucky winners and attended the celebration. Keep up the good work everyone! Pictured here with Celeste Gledhill are some of those who attended.
As part of Mapleton School's "Doing My Best" theme this year, students are being recognized for both academic and social success here at school.
This week students were recognized for serving others by reaching out and making new friends.
Teachers and staff are on the look out to catch students 'Doing Their best" for our school community.
We appreciate the effort put forth by the following students who have been selected .
