5th graders sing at Mapleton City Memorial Day Program

Several fifth grade students paid tribute to our military and service men and women at the annual Mapleton City Memorial Day Program at the park. They sang "Thank You Military" and did a wonderful job! A few of them have grandfathers who are veterans or fathers in the military now and so their song had extra special meaning. Thanks fifth graders!

Mapleton student qualifies for National ROV competition

Tyson Peterson is one of several Mapleton students who participated in the Utah Underwater Robotics competition in March. After working for several months on their own Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), he and his team took second place at regionals.  Tyson will now be heading to compete at the national Sea Perch competition at Dartmouth, Massachusetts on May 29-30th.  We want to wish him the best of luck!

Mrs. Christensen's retirement

After 36 years of teaching at Mapleton Elementary, Darlene Christensen is retiring. There will be a celebration in her honor on Wednesday, May 27th from 3:00 - 5:00 at Mapleton Elementary in the upper grade library. She has touched many lives and provided wonderful service to students, parents, teachers and the community. We wish her the very best with many hours of relaxation and enjoyment ahead. 

Orchestra Concert

Last night our combined Mapleton and HobbleCreek orchestras had their spring concert held at HobbleCreek Elementary. The students played a broad range of musical numbers from classical to folk to international. The students have grown so much from the first of the year and last night they shined. Thanks to Jessica Knight for her time, dedication and talents as the orchestra director at both schools. 

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is being celebrated at Mapleton Elementary.  The theme this year is "We Have a Monopoly On amazing Teachers!"  We have a week filled with Teacher and Faculty appreciation coming our way, thanks to our awesome PTA and volunteers at the school.  Pictured her is Mrs. Caswell our speech teacher choosing her prize from the community chest after being selected from our morning monopoly game.  

Student of the Week/Doing Your Best

This year at Mapleton Elementary we will be spotlighting a Student of the Week from each classroom. These students receive a certificate and prize from Mrs. Peery with the chance to be drawn out at the end of each month for "Pizza with the Principal." The focus for the month of May is "Doing Your Best".  The students are selected by their teachers as they see them doing their best at school.  Here are the Students of the Week for May 8.

4th grade Pioneer Program

The 4th grade students at Mapleton were able to step back in time this week at their Pioneer Program. They sang several songs depicting the history of Utah through the years and ended with square dancing to "Johnnie O" and the "Virginia Reel." Some students even brought their parents out onto the dance floor to join in the fun. 

Kinnect, BYU Dance Education Assembly

The students at Mapleton Elementary learned Science through movement through Kinnect, BYU dance education assembly.

  Kinnect demonstrated  properties of light :  Aurora Borealis, electricity, stars, constellations, light waves, opaque shadows, and Prisms .  1st grade and kindergarten students participated in workshops with the Kinnect dancers.
