Congratulations to Mrs. Katie Barth, Mapleton Elementary School's Crystal Apple Award Recipient for 2012-2013. The award was presented to Katie by Craig Harvey of Horace Mann Company. Katie was chosen to received the award from a survey and vote of her peers at Mapleton Elementary. We honor her for all her excellent teaching practices and contributions to our school.. The following pictures were taken of Mrs. Barth with Craig and the other picture of Katie by herself.

The following tribute to her was written by her friend and associate teacher, Emily Blaisdell. We appreciate her help also.

Mapleton Elementary is pleased to announce that Katie Barth is our “Crystal Apple Award” winner this year.  Katie was raised on the beautiful plains of Oklahoma.  She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  Katie is currently finishing her Master’s Degree at BYU in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education.  Katie has been a fourth grade teacher at Mapleton Elementary for the past five years.

Katie has a fun-loving personality and infectious smile that spreads cheer and happiness throughout the school.  If you are near her classroom, you’ll often hear her bubbly laughter ringing out, followed by a round of student giggles.  Learning is always a fun experience in her classroom.  She is a dedicated teacher and cares deeply about each of her students.  Katie has a passion for teaching and a unique ability to reach even the most challenging learner.  She whole-heartedly believes in each of her students and does her best to help them grow, learn, and succeed.  Mrs. Barth is a beloved teacher among the students at Mapleton and many eagerly anticipate having her as their fourth grade teacher.

Katie has a knack for writing creative and engaging lesson plans.  Katie is very innovative and finds ways for her students to have “hands on” experiences with most curricular topics.  She is always willing to share her great ideas with her teammates and has always gone the extra mile to offer support to interns on her team over the past five years.  She is an absolute joy to work with!

As a faculty, we are so grateful for the opportunity to work with such a fabulous teacher and friend.  We love and appreciate Katie and are proud to present her with this well-deserved award.  Congratulations Katie!
