Thirty two students from Mapleton Elementary participated in the Nebo Elementary Debate on March 21 2012. The resolution debated this year was Resolved that the state of Utah provide incentives for the increased production and consumption of local foods to improve air quality and reduce energy use.
Jacob Ward and Mason Jones were the 3rd place affirmative team winners and will participate in the state debate on April 26.  Sami Nobuhara and Malia Davis came in at 8th place and are the second alternates to go to state. Jacob Ward, Mason Jones, Kylie Johnson,Cole Tiffany, Abi Aldred, Sarah Savage, JJ Johns, Sami Nobuhara, Eliot Layton, and Parker Farnworth received speaker awards for their individual performance.
Debate is a way to develop the ability to speak fluently in front of an audience and consider both sides in making a decision.
